Description

Thuya burl is the most prized wood in Moroccan artisan culture. The burl — an abnormal growth at the tree's root — produces dense, swirling grain patterns that look different from every angle and under every light. Each bowl begins as a rough block cut by hand from harvested burl. The artisan works the spinning block on a traditional foot-powered lathe, gradually revealing the form inside the wood. The process takes 3–5 hours per bowl. No two are alike. Finished with natural argan oil (also Moroccan), the surface becomes smooth as glass while the grain's natural depth intensifies. The bowls can hold fruit, keys, jewelry — or simply be displayed as sculpture.
