How to Care for Your Wooden Products and Keep Them Beautiful for Years
Handcrafted wooden products last for decades if properly cared for. Here is the correct way to clean, moisturise and maintain the beauty of Moroccan wood.
The Golden Rules of Wood Care
1. Keep it away from excess water
Wood and water don't get along long-term. Never submerge any wooden product in water, even if classified as "food-safe". For cleaning, use a lightly damp cloth then dry immediately.
2. Keep away from direct sunlight and heat
Prolonged sun exposure fades the wood and dries it until it cracks. Don't place thuya or olive wood pieces near a fireplace or under direct sunlight.
3. Moisturise regularly
Once every 3-6 months, rub your wooden product with natural olive oil or lemon oil. This nourishes the wood and renews its natural sheen.
How to do it:
- Dust the surface with a dry cloth
- Put a little olive oil on a soft cloth
- Rub gently in the direction of the wood grain
- Leave to absorb for a full hour then wipe off the excess
4. Store away from humidity
If you're not using a piece for a long time, wrap it in clean cotton cloth and store it in a dry drawer. Avoid airtight plastic bags that trap moisture.
